IAESTE Programme

Overview

IAESTE is the International Association for the Exchange of Students for Technical Experience. It is a global network that helps students in engineering, IT and other technical fields get practical experience on projects at universities and companies worldwide. Participating in IAESTE will give students valuable experience that is relevant to their studies, as well as an insight into working life in their respective technical field. Moreover, it is a great opportunity to learn the culture and customs of other countries as exchanges are made to many different countries worldwide.

UM joined IAESTE in 2004, the association provides over for students around the world with the purpose of widening their views and enriching their working experience. UMs participation in IAESTE reflects it efforts in creating new opportunities for students to combine theory with practice, strengthen their specialties and experience different cultures.

Both undergraduate and postgraduate students may join a training programme through IAESTE during their summer vacation or for longer periods. Short training is of 8-12 weeks duration, whereas long training may last 3-18 months. Trainees get paid a subsidy to support their living expenses at the place of their exchange. Past trainees from FST have been to Austria, Brazil, Greece, Japan, Malta, Portugal, Serbia, Switzerland, USA and other countries.

The IAESTE Macao office helps UM students to find a placement abroad, and assists in making many of the necessary arrangements. For inbound students coming from abroad the IAESTE Macao office provides assistance in connecting with training providers, arranging accommodation, and organizing social activities.
