Rui
P. Martins
(M’88-SM’99-F’08) received the Bachelor (5-years), the Masters, and the Ph.D. degrees and the Habilitation
for Full-Professor in electrical engineering and computers from the
Electrical Engineering and Computers Department, Instituto Superior
Técnico (IST), Technical University of Lisbon (TUL), Lisbon, Portugal,
in 1980, 1985, 1992 and 2001, respectively.
He has been with the Electrical Engineering and Computers Department of
IST/TUL, since October 1980. Since 1992, he has also been with the
Electrical and Electronics Engineering Department, Faculty of Science
and Technology (FST), University of Macau (UM), Macao SAR, China, on
leave from IST, where he is a Full-Professor since 1998. In FST he was
the Dean of the Faculty from 1994 to 1997 and presently he is the
Vice-Rector (Research) of University of Macau, post that he holds since
1997. He has co-authored 2 books, 1 book chapter, 2 US Patents (1
submitted and 1 pending), close to 30 scientific journal papers and
more than 100 refereed conference papers in the areas of
microelectronics, electrical and electronics engineering, and
engineering education. His research interests include multirate signal
processing, analog and mixed-signal integrated circuit design, as well
as microwave filtering.
Dr. Rui Martins is an IEEE Fellow, was the Founding Chairman of the
IEEE Macau Section from 2003 to 2005, and he is the Chairman of the
IEEE Macau Joint-Chapter on CAS/COM since its creation in August 2005.
He was the recipient of 2 government decorations: the Medal of
Professional Merit from Macao Government (Portuguese Administration) in
1999, and the Honorary Title of Value from Macao SAR Government
(Chinese Administration) in 2001.

U
(S’94–M’00–SM’05) received
the B.Sc. degree in Electronics Engineering from Jinan
University, Guangzhou, China, in 1991. He received
the M.Sc. degree (with highest honor) in Electrical
and Electronics Engineering from University of Macau
(UM), Macao SAR, China in 1997 and the joint Ph.D.
degree in 2002 in the field of high-speed analog integrated
circuit design from the UM and the Instituto Superior
Técnico, Universidade Técnica de Lisboa
(IST/UTL), Lisbon, Portugal.
Dr. U has been with Dept. of Electrical and Electronics
Engineering (EEE), Faculty of Science and Technology
(FST), UM since 1994, where he is currently Associate
Professor and leading the Analog & Mixed-Signal
VLSI research laboratory. During 1999–2001,
he was also on leave to the Integrated CAS Group,
Center of Microsystems, IST/UTL, as a Visiting Researcher.
In 2001, Dr. U co-founded the Chipidea Microelectronics
(Macau), Ltd, the first company in Macau devoted in
advanced analog and mixed-signal Semiconductor IP
(SIP) product development, and was Engineering Director
for leading the data conversion and system solution
divisions. Since 2003 he has been the Vice-President
(IP Operations Asia Pacific) and General Manager of
the company.
Dr. U is currently Senior Member of IEEE and has published
about 70 scientific journal and conference papers.
He was also a co-author of Design of Very High-Frequency
Multirate Switched-Capacitor Circuits – Extending
the Boundaries of CMOS Analog Front-End Filtering
(Springer, 2005). His research interests are CMOS
analog and mixed-Signal integrated circuits, high-performance
data-converters, integrated Analog Front-Ends for
communication & consumer electronics
Dr. U received the Excellent Young Scholar Award 2001
(First Prize) and The Most Favorite Teacher Award
2002 and 2003 for the Dept. of EEE, as well as The
FST Teaching Award 2003/2004 from the UM. He also
received The Young Researcher Award 2002 from Macau
International Institute. In 2005, he was the recipient
of the National Lecture Fellowship awarded from K.C.Wong
Education Foundation. Dr. U is also the advisor for
various international student paper award recipients,
e.g. 2nd Place of Conceptual Category of IEEE DAC/ISSCC
Student Design Contest 2005, 2nd Prize of IEEE MWSCAS
2004 Student Paper Contest, Outstanding Student Paper
Award of ASICON 2003.

Pui-In Mak (S’00-M’08) received the BSEEE and PhDEEE degrees from University of Macau (UM), Macao, China, in 2003 and 2006, respectively. He was with Chipidea Microelectronics (Macau) Ltd. in summer 2003. Since 2004, he has been with the Analog and Mixed-Signal VLSI Laboratory of UM (elevated as State-Key Lab in 2010) as Research Assistant (2004-2006), Invited Research Fellow (2006-2007) and (Co)-Coordinator of the Wireless (Biomedical) Research Line (2008-). He is currently Assistant Professor at UM. His research interests are on analog/RF circuits and systems for wireless and biomedical applications, and engineering education.
Dr. Mak was a Visiting Fellow at University of Cambridge, UK and a Visiting Scholar at INESC-ID, Portugal in 2009. He served on the Technical/Organization Committees of numerous conferences such as APCCAS’08 and ISCAS’10. He co-organized the GOLD Session in ISCAS’09-10. He is Associate Editor of IEEE Trans. on CAS I–Regular Papers (2010-2011), IEEE Trans. on CAS II–Express Briefs (2010-2011) and IEEE CASS Newsletter (2010-).
Dr. Mak (co)-received paper awards at ASICON’03, MWSCAS’04, IEEJ Analog VLSI Workshop’04, PRIME’05, DAC/ISSCC-SDC’05, APCCAS’08 and PrimeAsia’09. He also received: the Honorary Title of Value decoration from Macao Government in 2005; the Clare-Hall Visiting Fellowship from University of Cambridge UK in 2009; the IEEE MGA GOLD Achievement Award in 2009; the IEEE CASS Chapter-of-the-Year Award in 2009; the UM Research Award in 2010 and the IEEE CASS Outstanding Young Author Award in 2010.
Dr. Mak is a Member of IEEE GOLD Committee (2007-), CASS Board-of-Governors (2009-2011), CASS Publication Activities Committee (2009-2011), CASS Web Ad-Hoc Committee (2010-) and CASS Technical Committees of CASCOM (2008-) and CASEO (2009-). He co-authored a book: Analog-Baseband Architectures and Circuits for Multistandard and Low-Voltage Wireless Transceivers (Springer, 2007), and 50+ papers in referred journals and conferences. He holds 1 U.S. patent and several in applications.

Sai-Weng Sin (S’98 – M’06) received the B.Sc., M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees (all with the highest honors) in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from University of Macau, Macao SAR, China, in 2001, 2003 and 2008 respectively. He is currently working in the field of low-voltage, high-speed monolithic analog-to-digital converter designs.
Dr. Sin is currently an Assistant Professor in the Faculty of Science and Technology, University of Macau, and is the Coordinator of the Data Conversion and Signal Processing (DCSP) Research Line in Analog and Mixed-Signal VLSI Laboratory, University of Macau. His research interests include low-voltage, high-speed analog integrated circuit designs, high-performance data converters, as well as in the timing-jitter analysis and low-jitter clock generator designs for high-performance, high-speed mixed-signal systems. He has co-authored a book - Generalized Low-Voltage Circuit Techniques for Very High-Speed Time-Interleaved Analog-to-Digital Converters, Springer, 2010 and published over 50 technical journals and conference papers in the field of interests.
Dr. Sin is currently the Secretary of IEEE Solid-State Circuit Society (SSCS) Macau Chapter, and Treasurer/Secretary of IEEE Macau CAS/COM Joint Chapter and the Member of Executive Committee – Academic Affair of IEEE Macau, and has been the member of Technical Program and Organization Committee of the 2004 IEEJ AVLSI Workshop, Technical Session Chair of 2006 RIUPEEEC Conference, as well as the Special Session Co-Chair and Technical Program Committee Member of 2008 IEEE APCCAS Conference, Referee of IEEE Transaction of Instrumentation and Measurement and IEEE ISCAS Conference. He received the Chipidea Microelectronics Prize – Postgraduate Level in 2008 for outstanding Academic and Research achievements in Microelectronics, as well as the Financial Support Award for Student Paper Contest in 2005 International Symposium on Circuits and Systems (ISCAS) held in Kobe, Japan, the Paper with Certificate of Merit for the 2006 RIUPEEEC Conference.
