An Academic Journal, Co-Edited by UM Professor Yang Chen, Indexed in SCI-E

The journal Random Matrices: Theory and Applications, co-edited by Prof. Yang Chen from the Department of Mathematics, Faculty of Science and Technology (FST), University of Macau (UM) published by World Scientific, was recently indexed in the Science Citation Index Expanded (SCI-E).

“The indexation of the journal is considered as high quality. It also indicates the importance of the publication is being increasingly recognised by the academic institutions,” says Prof Chen. “The Science Citation Index is a citation index originally produced by the Institute for Scientific Information (ISI) and its extended version SCI-E covers more than 6,500 notable and significant journals, from 1900 to the present. These are alternatively described as the world's leading journals of science and technology, because of a rigorous selection process.”

Random Matrices: Theory and Applications, publishes high quality papers on all aspects regarding random matrices, both theory and applications. These areas will include, but not be limited to, spectral theory, new ensembles (those not generally considered in classical random matrix theory), and applications to a wide variety of areas, including high dimensional data analysis, wireless communications, finance, and economics. Only papers that contain original, innovative and correct results, which deepen our understanding on the theory of random matrices and its applications, will be considered for publications.

Random matrix theory puts forward by EP Wigner, the Jones Professor of Mathematical Physics of the Princeton University in 1950s for the interpretation of the observed energy level of heavy nuclei together with the fundamental contributions from Freeman Dyson, Madan Lal Mehta, Estelle Basor, Craig Tracy, Harold Widom, Pierre Van Moerebeke and Dan-virgil Voiculescu has grown into a discipline which encompasses areas of pure mathematics: complex analysis, operator theory, non-commutative probability, and applied mathematics: multi-variate statistics, integrable systems, information theory of wireless communication systems.

Prof Chen is a theoretical physicist and has devoted to the research field of random matrix theory for more than 20 years. His research interests include random matrix theory, orthogonal polynomials and special functions, painleve transcendents and integrable systems, random matrices applied to wireless communications and moduli spaces in QCD, and asymptotic theory of large random matrices. Prof. Chen has collaborated with mathematicians and engineers to work on a variety of problems that show up in information theory of wireless communication systems, and certain   problems in String Theory.

由世界科學出版社出版,澳門大學科技學院數學系陳玡仰教授的刊物- 隨機矩陣:理論與應用,最近被收錄在科學引文索引(SCI-E)。



隨機矩陣理論起源於1950年代,是由普林斯頓大學的數學物理的瓊斯教授EP Wigner教授所提出的。隨機矩陣理論是對於重核的觀察能級與基本內容的詮釋,然後由Freeman Dyson教授、Madan Lal Mehta教授、Estelle Basor教授、Craig Tracy教授、Harold Widom教授、Pierre Van Moerebeke教授和Dan-virgil Voiculescu教授漸漸發展延伸其至包含純數學領域的學科:複分析,算子理論,非交換概率,應用數學:多變量統計,可積系統,信息論無線通信系統。

陳教授是一位理論物理學家,一直致力於隨機矩陣理論的研究領域超過20年。他的研究興趣包括隨機矩陣理論,正交多項式和特殊函數,Painleve 方程式和可積系統,隨機矩陣應用於無線通信和量子色動力學(QCD)的模空間,以及大型隨機矩陣漸近理論。目前,陳教授與眾多數學家和工程師合作,對各種各樣的無線通信系統,並在弦理論的某些組合問題出現問題進行研究。
